Deciding what to eat might be the most frequent, ancient and yet still complicated errand there is. Think about it: it's an incredibly old need, we face it multiple times a day, and yet it's still a painful, time-consuming process for us as a species. Compare it to other needs like shelter, warmth, or communication—we've gotten so much better at those. But every night I get home and think "ugh, what do I eat tonight." Sure, sometimes I go out, sometimes I order, but most of the time I just want to eat at home.
Potatoes is a full-stack web and mobile app I built to help with tracking recipes and meal planning. It's nothing revolutionary—similar products exist—but they all have very specific ways of doing things that aren't mine. Potatoes is exactly how I want it.
Now, did building this app solve my problem with deciding what to eat and actually cooking it? Probably not. But at least I have the illusion of making progress.
